Georgia schools usually evacuate after they receive bomb threats. Mindful of the fact that an act of terrorism or other violence is a very real possibility, authorities take these threats very seriously. Fortunately, these threats usually turn out to be hoaxes; however, they cause a huge headache for school officials, whose normal course of business is disrupted, and first responders, who bring in expensive resources to investigate the threat. In response to this growing problem, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) will present "Managing School Bomb Threats" on Wednesday, March 24 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Ga. This free class is geared for education and law enforcement professionals. Topics will cover planning for a bomb threat, how to identify a credible threat, search techniques, and adjudication of a bomb threat suspect. The seminar will conclude with an explosives demonstration. Six hours of continuing education credit has been approved for POST, EMS, Fire, CEM, Chiefs of Police and Teacher PLU. To register, fill out the attached form and fax to (478) 993-4260, Attn: GEMA Training. We hope you will help us spread the word about this valuable training! Billy R.
