Everything that happens immediately after a line-of-duty death affects the way the family, the department, and the community recover from the loss. Lack of resources and planning often adds to the confusion and pain that occurs.
The Foundation thinks the best place for a department to turn for support is within its own state or region. So we have developed resources and training to help establish state and regional line-of-duty response teams. If a state already has a team in place, we can help by providing resources.
Team leaders who were chosen by the individual state fire service of 10 states received training in 2006. During 2007, the Foundation will provide training for the remaining 40 states.
